Tour Overview

The Marangu Route stands out as the most renowned and accessible path to Uhuru Peak, the summit of Kilimanjaro. Often referred to as the Tourist Route or the Coca-Cola Route, it remains a top choice for climbers, with approximately 70% of adventurers opting for this trail. Renowned for its relatively moderate difficulty level and shorter duration compared to other routes, the Marangu Route primarily entails straightforward hiking, making it appealing to many.
Despite its reputation for being one of the easiest routes, the final ascent to the summit remains challenging, requiring climbers to be well-prepared and equipped. It's essential to approach the Marangu Route with seriousness, ensuring thorough organization and adherence to safety protocols, as inadequate preparation often leads to a high failure rate among climbers.
Along the Marangu Route, each campsite offers essential supplies such as chocolates, beer, soft drinks, and mineral water, while maintaining radio contact with the Park Office for communication and support. While it's possible to complete the route in five days, experts recommend allocating an additional day for acclimatization at the Horombo hut, the only campsite on Kilimanjaro equipped with beds and mattresses.
Dubbed the "Coca-Cola Route" due to its popularity and relative ease, the Marangu Route presents a feasible option for those with time constraints. Though the five-day option may feel rushed, it remains an attainable strategy for summiting the Roof of Africa.

Tour Itinerary

You'll be picked up from your accommodations in Moshi and driven to Kilimanjaro National Park. Here, you'll meet your guides and commence your journey through the lush rainforest that blankets the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro. Hiking for 5-6 hours amidst this ancient jungle, you'll enjoy a mini-safari, spotting wildlife like black and white colobus monkeys along the trail. Your night will be spent at the modern Mandara Huts, equipped with conveniences such as solar lighting and flush toilets – luxuries you'll appreciate before venturing further up the mountain.

An early start awaits you as you embark on a full day of hiking. Today's trek transitions from the verdant rainforest to the stark alpine zone, covering over 11 kilometers en route to the Maundi Crater. Weather permitting, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Kibo Glacier before settling in for the night.

Today brings another challenging hike as you make your way to Kibo Hut in preparation for your summit bid. Ascending nearly 1,000 meters, you'll pass the last watering point at 4,130 meters before reaching Kibo Hut in the afternoon. Stay hydrated during your early dinner, as you'll rise early the next day to commence your ascent to the summit.

An early start is essential today – just after midnight, in fact! Your team will wake you with hot tea and a light snack before beginning the climb in darkness. Hiking for 5-7 hours, you'll reach Stella Point before dawn, and after a further two hours of intense ascent, you'll stand triumphantly at Uhuru Peak, 5,985 meters above sea level. After witnessing the majestic sunrise and soaking in the panoramic view, you'll descend to Horombo Hut via Kibo Hut, culminating in one of the most challenging yet rewarding days of your journey.

Today is a day of celebration as you enjoy a final breakfast on the mountain before descending to Marangu Gate. The nearly 20-kilometer walk downhill is a welcome change from the ascent.
Upon reaching the gate, you'll celebrate with your porters and guides, offering them well-deserved tips for their hard work, and receiving your certificate of completion. Your driver will then transport you back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for some well-deserved rest.
